Cheap jewellery can be a nightmare for women

Cheap jewellery can be a nightmare for women

Are you a fashion-conscious woman and love to wear artificial jewellery? But you are fed up of the rashes caused each time you wear a cheap jewellery and fail to understand what`s the reason behind this? Well, Scientists from University of Giessen claim to have found the reason why cheap jewellery cause painful rashes on women`s skin.

Wearing a pair of alloy earrings can produce painful red swelling and blisters for many women.

Coins, belt buckles, and even mobile phones may also cause an unpleasant allergic reaction when they rub against the skin.

The research team claim that the reason behind allergies is that they all contain nickel. Nickel binds to a particular immune-system protein normally involved in detecting harmful invaders, reports dailymail.co.uk.

In susceptible people, this results in the body recognising nickel as an infectious agent and triggering inflammation.

As the immune system goes into overdrive, it produces the classic symptoms of burning, itching, redness, swelling and blisters.

Ladies, want to be happy? Live like a man

Ladies, want to be happy? Live like a guy

Ladies, do you want to live happier, healthier and even thinner? Here we go – men can go days without washing their clothes or dishes, and pass an evening in each other`s company without exchanging more than 10 words. A new study suggests that adopting some of these habits might make women happier, healthier and even thinner.

Here`s how...

Join a team sport - Most women give up on sport to join a gym instead.

"Yet men don`t really consider their weekly game a workout: it`s a social event for them," The Daily Telegraph quoted psychologist Lydia Ievleva as saying.

"Any sport which involves friendship will help women feel less alone, rather than languishing in their worries," she added.

Drop the mop

"Women tend to view keeping a clean and tidy home as one of their main tasks of the day, compared with men`s priority of doing outdoor tasks," said wellness coach Fiona Cosgrove.

Instead, ask for help without making it look like nagging.

Trust your own decisions

Instead of running off to talk to your gal pal about every problem, try to keep them to yourself and decide how you need to deal with it - just as men usually do.

A study at Columbia University`s Teachers College found that those who kept their emotions in check were better adjusted and became less distressed by events.

"They get to the point, keep it real and keep it simple," said Dr Elizabeth Celi.

Do one thing at a time and be more productive - Celi said men set boundaries and focus completely on the task at hand.

"They`ll reach a resolution quickly, with time left over for the next task," she said.

"For some women, combining multi-tasking with a superwoman mentality is a recipe for going mad!"

Lose the guilt about food and eat better

"If a man has a day when he eats too much, he`ll probably shrug and begin his eating plan again the next day. Whereas women tend to feel that they`ve ruined their chances at weight loss if they "slip up"," said Dr Tim Gill.

So quit worrying about your diet and just get back to your routine as soon as possible.

Commit to a goal - If you`re a man you`re more likely to achieve your goals.

"Write down your health goals," said Cosgrove.

"Lists appeal to a woman`s sense of responsibility, so you`ll be more likely to follow through."

Work out

Maintaining muscle mass is important to keep you slim, as well as preventing osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes.

"Using your own body weight is ideal," says Dr Gill.

"Try sit-ups, push-ups and hill or stair walking to build your muscle mass," he added.

Tips to attract the same sex

Tips to attract the same sex

Gone are the days when homosexuality was a taboo and being so was looked down upon as inferiors. People are coming up with their gender choices and they are even not shy to declare their sexual priority towards the same sex.

Attraction is a curious thing. Hard to define and even more difficult to control, it can be a precarious process that requires a bit of work to do right. Read on if you want to get your hooks into a person of the same sex. This article will teach you how to work a room, and keep your cool on your adventure toward love.

1. Communicate through jewelry and clothing. The international symbol for the gay and lesbian community is the rainbow. Purchase a belt, jewelry or other accessory to communicate to potential romantic partners that you are openly active in the gay and lesbian community. Use the symbol as a springboard for other topics and interests. For example, tell a humorous story about how easy or difficult it is to find interesting gay pride clothing and jewelry, depending on your experience.

2. Go slow. When in a social environment that is not gay and lesbian specific, rely on body language and open communication to invite same sex partners. Be prepared to find that your advances may not be received. However, with an effective strategy you can work any room in a matter of minutes without ever needing to leave your seat. First, make eye contact and smile with the person of the same sex you want to know more personally. If the person mirrors this gesture, raise an eyebrow and direct your eyes to a specific location. This will encourage the person to meet you in the designated location. If he moves to that location, begin the conversation with a compliment. Express your curiosity and desire to meet him.

3. Express your desire to be in a same sex relationship. Be open and honest about your preference and interests. The more open and honest you are about your interests, the more you will find yourself able to express what you want. Like anything that defines a person, whether it be career, talent or personality, your social network will begin to widen as others come to know your interests and refer to you by those interests. This will create a chain of communication that speaks on your behalf when others are talking randomly and catching up on each other. Who knows, someone may mention you and then be reminded that another person, the same sex as you, may be a perfect match.

4. Visit gay and lesbian bars and beach resorts. Have a sense of humor and open yourself to the fun of dating. Be confident as you meet new people and explore your sexuality. Remember that attraction is a magnet that builds off the force of two people. So if you find that a person is just not that in to you, smile and then move on. The important thing to remember is that you catch the eye of the next potential romantic partner.

Concerned games boss in Delhi, to inspect stadiums

They have been hit by construction delays. The mega event will start from October 3-14 mega event. There is no information whether he would also speak to press. Ward for swine flu patients restarts

Although the death toll of H1N1 patients admitted in both government hospitals in the city has touched 10, most patients are from neigbouring towns and cities. Authorities continue to insist that there is no cause to panic. However, in case of increase in inflow of patients to and from the city, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has restarted a 20-bed dedicated isolation ward since last Sunday for swine flu.

Speaking to TOI, GMCH dean, Dr R M Powar said that although GMCH is prepared to handle swine flu patients, it is unfortunate that almost all patients are reaching the hospital in a bad condition.

"Private and government doctors in the district and other towns should first start treating any suspected case with tamiflu and not wait for the report of blood sample or for the condition to worsen before referring to GMCH. Two pregnant women as well as two other patients who died at GMCH came in morbid conditions," he said.

At present, GMCH has three ventilators in ward No. 25. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has offered to lend one while the directorate of medical education and research has initiated the process for procuring five more for GMCH and two for the super specialty hospital. Dr Powar said that the hospital has the necessary infrastructure as well as medicine stock.

The dean feels that compared to Mumbai, Pune and other cities in western Maharashtra, the death toll in the region is negligible and that there is no reason to panic. Since people have already been exposed to the virus once, the threat will be lesser now. Since deaths at GMCH are from outside the city and from isolated places, the disease has become like any other viral disease.

"It is more important to see that we have successfully treated almost all patients who were brought with initial infection stage," the dean said. Four doctors at GMCH and three from the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College have recovered well from the infection.

Dr Y B Bansod, professor and head of the medicine department said that WHO has declared that the swine flu pandemic is over and that India's management of the disease has been appreciated.

Of the ten deaths since April, eight, including five at GMCH, have taken place in the last fortnight.

Two patients, Dhulichand Narnavare (56) from Jaripatka and Prakash Chaoji from Mahal died at a nursing home in Jaripatka and one patient (Kamal Jaiswani) from Jabalpur, who was brought on a ventilator to the Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI), died in the last four days.

Five deaths at GMCH (between August 5 to 12) include 2 pregnant women, one each from Kalmeshwar and Mouda. They were brought in a critical condition.

Three other patients, a 15-year-old boy suffering from blood cancer from Kamptee, another from Ashti and one from Mouda too were brought in a serious condition. These were declared swine flu deaths as their H1N1 status report arrived three days after their death.

"We cannot label them as H1N1 deaths till they test positive," said Dr M M Borkar, PRO, GMCH.

Type the rupee symbol

A prototype for the first keyboard to have the Indian rupee symbol was released on August 15. Manufactured by TVS Electronics, Chennai, the keyboard is called TVS Gold Bharat, and is part of the self-produced range of keyboards manufactured by the company. Of significance
SS
Raman, managing director of TVS Electronics, says he had been approached to voice his thoughts about the rupee symbol after its launch on July 15. “I had ideas, and decided that the company should come up with a keyboard with the rupee symbol. After all, it is now going to be significant for all of us,” he said.

The symbol has been inscribed on the key above the Tab button, and its positioning, Raman says, took a fair amount of research. “We had to delve into the usage of keystrokes, and learnt that Indians rarely had use of the first key in the row of numbers. So it proved to be a good spot,” he said.

Font systems
Currently, the company awaits operating software to incorporate a font in their system by which the key, when tapped, will print the symbol.

"The Department of Information Technology is in talks with leading operating software developers, and we're hoping for a meeting where they make a font that supports the symbol of the rupee. Once that gets through, the keyboard should be in the market within two weeks," Raman said. The TVS Gold Bharat will be retailed online and sold at a price of Rs 1,495.

No-ball issue: Sangakkara takes the blame

Sangakkara
Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara on Wednesday said he has taken responsibility for team action for Suraj Randiv's no-ball to deny Indian opener Virender Sehwag his century.

Sangakkara also said he has faced similar incidents as a player.

"The incident is unsavoury and unfortunate and the issue is under Sri Lanka cricket board."

"The team will put the incident behind them for the next match against New Zealand," said the Lankan skipper.

Earlier, Sri Lankan media report said that it was Tillakaratne Dilshan who suggested off-spinner Suraj Randiv to bowl a no-ball to deny Indian opener Virender Sehwag his century during Monday's controversial tri-series match.

Sri Lanka Cricket, which has ordered an internal probe into the no-ball controversy, is yet to make the report official but according to 'The Island' it was Dilshan who suggested Randiv to bowl a no-ball at the fag end of the match which India won by six wickets.

Sehwag was just one short of his 13th ODI hundred when Randiv, who had not bowled a no ball in the Test or ODI series this season, bowled one which was hit by the opener for a six.
