In deep waters, Pak rejects Indian aid

Even though Pakistan is facing worst ever flood crisis of their history, it has still rejected Indian aid offer worth of 5 million dollars. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday called his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani and offered assistance in handling the devastation caused by the floods. Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said althoughPakistan appreciates India`s offer, it cannot accept it in the current circumstances.

Early last week, Minister of External Affairs SM Krishna had called on his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi and offered $ 5 million in aid for flood relief work.

Singh was of the opinion that all of South Asia should extend every possible help to the people of Pakistan affected by the tragedy.

Over two thousand people have died and the UN says more than 6,50,000 people are without basic shelter while six million desperately need emergency aid.

Singh called Gilani `to express his sense of sorrow and to condole the deaths resulting from the huge floods that have devastated parts ofPakistan.
