Yamuna crosses danger mark, people evacuated

Due to heavy and continues rain in the capital, the water level of Yamuna River has crossed the danger level.

A senior official said that the river crossed the danger level of 204.83 metres last evening and now it is flowing 11 cm above the danger mark. The government has started the job of evacuating the people living in low-lying areas.

Alerts have been already issued anticipating fears of a flood. Some families living in low-lying areas in North-East, East and South-East Delhi have been evacuated. Wazirabad and Okhla barrage was opened which might help the level of water to go down.

It continued to rain on Saturday for the third consecutive day.

"One or two spells of heavy rainfall are predicted in parts of the city. The skies will continue to remain cloudy," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
