Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor on Sunday tied the knot with Dubai-based businesswoman Sunanda Pushkar. The much-hyped wedding of the high profile couple took place in a typical Malayali style at his ancestral home at Elavanchery village, which is 30km from Palakkad in Kerala.
Tharoor tied the ‘thali’ around Sunanda’s neck amid playing of `Nadaswaram` and beating of drums at the auspicious moment early Sunday morning. A ‘thali’ symbolizes the marital bond as per the Hindu custom.
48 year old Sunanda, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir was looking gorgeous in an off-white `veshti-mundu set`, a traditional dress for Malayali brides. On the other hand the 54 year old groom, Tharoor, was clad in traditional Malayali kurtha and mundu.
The 200-year-old ancestral home was the marriage venue. The newly wed couple will host a reception tomorrow in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. It is learnt that they will hold a reception in New Delhi after a couple of days.
