In glasses, B'wood stars look intellectuals too

In glasses, Bollywood stars look intellectuals too

Remember Big B’s oversized shades in Deewar, Trishul and Zanjeer? Few have been able to carry off shades the way Big B once did, but the new stars on the block set their own fashion trends. Glance at the frames our stars have recently flaunted putting the chasmish look in vogue again! But, one thing can not be debated that they look intellectuals in glasses.

Ranbir Kapoor in Rajneeti brought back the frameless glass look in his film. The frames gave that extra zing to his intellectual cum politician personality and made him stand out as the most suave and debonair star amongst all in the multi starrer.

The rimless have done the trick on stars including Shahid in Jab We Met. The intriguing look with the shy touch made him every girl’s dream and the subtle contribution of the frames to his appeal in the film is undeniable.

So was for Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai. Credited with introducing the rimless spectacles as a fashion accessory at the beginning of the millennium, it was actually Hrithik’s idea to make Raj wear glasses as opposed to his look-alike Rohit in the film. Worked wonders and the girls weren’t complaining!!!

Our heroines didn’t stay a wee bit behind in getting ‘framed’. Kareena Kapoor in 3 Idiots sported glasses with panache. Her thick frames became the fashion fad of aspiring medical students and young girls alike. She may have got the idea from her sister in Dil to Paagal Hai who sported glasses in the role that won her a National award!

Preity Zinta made her contribution to the frame fashion with her look in Kal Ho Naa Ho. Perky Preity looked pleasantly fresh in her frames and caught the imagination of filmi fashion buffs across the nation.

So like them or don’t- you cant ignore the frames on our stars! From Big B to Preity Zinta- when they make them look more dashing and appealing- we’re only to happy to have them add that punch to the look of our fave stars!

Why celebrities commit suicide ?

New Delhi- They were rich, famous, good looking and with lot of grace. They were adored by millions. They made their mark in their respective fields. But, they fail to cope with the hard-realities of life. Well, we are talking about the likes of Viveka Babajee, Bimal Roy, Nafisa Joseph, Monero, Kuljeet Randhawa, Spiderman star Lucy Gordon and supermodel Tom Nicon, who recently jumped down from his flat. Even Nargis thought of suicide before she met Sunil Dutt.

It is really amazing that even though the world is fascinated by these stars, but their inner world is incomplete. It is said for Nargis that she went through many ups and downs in her life. She had just mentally detached herself from her relationship with Raj Kapoor.

He was after all, a married man. When you are a celebrity, people want gossip about you. And spare a thought for charming and urbane Viveka. The loneliness of inner mind pushed her to a commit suicide recently in her Mumbai flat.

The loneliness also took a very heavy toll on the maker of master pieces of Hindi cinema like Pyaasa and Kaagaz ke Phool. Those who knew the film maker close enough say that Guru Dutt experienced great emotional anguish and loneliness.

Her failed love affair with Waheeda Rahman completely broken him. Guru Dutt had tried to commit suicide before he finally passed away. He withdrew into a shell of loneliness. Film writer Harish Chandra says that Guru Dutt's films were about the inability of people to express what’s troubling them.

Those who have seriously work on causes of suicide says that big time celebrities have an immense sense of loneliness and hopelessness. And there’s a lack of belonging. There are days, when they feel like a loser. That feeling sometimes drive them to take extreme step.

In an interview to TOI, film writer Bhawana Somaaya says that showbiz is not a place for the weak. You need nerves of steel to be able to survive the highs and lows of this world and remain grounded. Those with supportive families survive the storms.

Insecurity is an overwhelming emotion in any creative profession. Film stars are peddlers of emotion and there are more emotional wrecks here. There is shame and scandal, exhibitionism and eccentricity, but there is also an energy, a fatal attraction about the world of cinema that is obsessive. Once you have been a part of it you feel incomplete without it. Meanwhile, discussing the reasons for celebrities taking extreme steps, psychiatrist Avdesh Sharma says that when the mind gets used to the highs, the lows can be devastating. Rejection can be tough.

People start withdrawing and build walls. They leave no space for ‘good’ relationships, because they feel people are using them as a stairway for their gains. Hence, begins the process of isolation. In this sophisticated society, nobody will ask, ‘Why are you withdrawing’?

Muralitharan claims 800th Test wicket

Muttiah Muralitharan claims 800th Test wicket

Sri Lanka's spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan created history on Wednesday by claiming a record 800 Test wickets in his last match against India in Galle on Thursday. With this, Murali has become the first bowler to reach the milestone.

Murali lead Sri Lanka to a dominant 10-wicket win over India in the first Test. India were bundled out for 338 in their second innings on Day 5.

The 38-year-old cricketer is the leading wicket-taker in tests and one-day internationals. He dismissed Pragyan Ojha to reach the milestone.

Muralitharan was eight wickets short of the landmark figure of 800 coming into his swan song Test. He finished with match figures of eight for 191. He took five for 63 in the first innings and three for 128 in the second.

Galle has been Muralitharan's favorite hunting ground, where he has taken 103 wickets in 14 matches with an average of 18.

Muralitharan's 800 Test wickets came in 133 matches at an average of 22.74.

Often referred to as Murali, he was rated the greatest Test match bowler ever by Wisden Cricketers' Almanack in 2002.

Muralitharan is the highest wicket-taker in both Test cricket and in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He took the wicket of Gautam Gambhir on 5 February 2009 in Colombo, to surpass Wasim Akram's ODI record of 502 wickets. Muralitharan became the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket when he overtook the previous record-holder Shane Warne on 3 December 2007 in the longer version of the game.

Muralitharan had previously held the record when he surpassed Courtney Walsh's 519 wickets in 2004. But he suffered a shoulder injury later that year and was then overtaken by Warne.

Averaging over six wickets per Test, Muralitharan is one of the most successful bowlers in the game. He plays domestic cricket for the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club, and plays in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings.

Muralitharan's career has been beset with controversy. His bowling action called into question on a number of occasions by umpires and sections of the cricket community. After biomechanical analysis in non-match conditions, Muralitharan's action was cleared by the International Cricket Council, first in 1996 and again in 1999.
